01 — The villa

Glass, timber and the valley

Living and dining rooms open onto the view on two sides. There is a fireplace for the cool north-coast evenings, a full kitchen, and a garden of rosemary, mint and lemongrass along the drive.

02 — The building

Designed in 2010 for this ridge

Casa Keam was the vision of António Trindade, designed with Madeiran architect Bruno Martins and finished in 2010. It steps down the slope instead of sitting on top of it, so the living floor meets the valley through glass on two sides and every bedroom faces the drop. The roof is planted and walkable — a garden you go up to, not a surface you look at. From the road below the villa reads orange; from the air it settles into the laurel green.
